 yes, I'm very wrong actually! works first time round but not on following
 clicks. still easy to migrate, but a little more copy/paste involved:

 $(selector).live(events, data, handler);                // jQuery 1.3+
 $(document).on(events, selector, data, handler);        // jQuery 1.7+
