 I'd like to find a way to make it work, as it's a not-uncommonly-requested
 feature, and the only possible way of doing it right now is really an

 We have some fallback logic for this already in the Members component
 https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/trunk/bp-members/bp-members-
 loader.php#L105 So we would just need something similar.
