 Do you think it's feasible to try and implement your query restructuring
 on a 1.2.9 install?

 I can  copy last_activity usermeta to the activity table, although it'd be
 nice to see a row from your activity table so that I get all the other
 fields correct.

 This probably isn't the best place for this discussion. A better place
 would be... ?
