Comment:

 Seems like this ticket has been dead for a while, but I'd like to weigh in
 requesting that some arguments be added to bp_group_has_members();

 Similar to the 'type' argument accepted by bp_has_members(), perhaps the
 group members loop could accept "newest, active, online, alphabetical,
 random"

 Likewise, 'sort' => 'ASC' or 'type' ->  'oldest' would be great for many
 groups. Showing the newest members (the current default) at the top of a
 roster might be counterproductive to some groups organizational structure.
