 Has there been a discussion about how to handle, or what to do about,
 backwards compatibility for plugins which use the various plugins.php
 templates? There are also quite a few plugins which ship with their own
 component directory templates.

 I think there should be a very clear path for plugin authors to follow in
 order to bring their templates/code in line with the new strategy. The
 proposed changes to templating are very exciting, but when plugins are
 activated which do it "the old way," its going to negate a lot of the
 advantages provided by the 1.7 changes, at least from a site admin
 perspective.
