 No. The avatar fix in 1.6.1 was for a separate issue.

 BuddyPress does not create avatars of the form -bpfull-16x16, etc. We only
 create -bpfull and -bpthumb avatar files. The additional files must be
 being created by Salutation. Please contact the developers of that theme,
 and report back if you get information on why the 1.6 upgrade caused the
 problem in question.
