Comment:

 I received a friendship_request_notification on testbp.org and it was not
 clearing when I clicked the link in the admin bar.

 I had to add "/?new" at the end of the link to have it cleared.

 I think in r4620 you accidentally removed the "/?new" part at the end of
 the link that should clear the friendship_request_notification in this
 file:
