 To expand on what DJPaul has said: it makes sense to override the
 ::shortcode() method for the time being, using the current_user_can()
 check that he suggests. If and when your request for a filter in WP core
 is granted, we can deprecate BP_Embed::shortcode() and just filter the cap
 in question.

 If that all makes sense, please go ahead and refresh the patch.
