 I've seen a few mom-and-pop social networks have limits on inboxes for
 user convenience and to eliminate clutter/burden on the server.

 For example, one says "Messages will be automatically deleted after 14
 days unless saved, and you are limited to 200 saved messages."

 Unless a user is prudent with their inbox there is the chance inboxes
 could get cluttered and strain the server load.
