Comment:

 The brief version of this issue is that it has to do with the greedy
 nature of 'make_clickable'. If there's no space after the link, the
 make_clickable likes to include any other characters that form a valid
 link. This, "testing http://yahoo.com/" fails, while this, "testing
 http://yahoo.com/ " works. Since all of the filters applied to
 bp_get_activity_latest_update are really only needed for the actual
 activity excerpt, if move just the excerpt to it's own filter, for
 instance bp_get_activity_latest_update_pre, the issue is resolved.
