 This might make a good request for WP. As of now, WPMU/WPMS is the only
 version that even sends an email requiring the user to click a link to
 activate the new email. There are no hooks to make your request super
 easy, but it could still be done. I would try WP Trac. See if you can get
 some hooks added to the email confirmation functions, and see about
 getting email confirmation added to WP Single. BP would likely piggyback
 on these functions.
