 I've already replied to Al on the forums and he's got group forums hidden
 now on his standalone bbPress install using my tutorial.

 The solution I posted on the forums is basically a modified version of
 _ck_'s "Hidden Forums" bbPress plugin.

 I think the sensible thing for BP 1.3 is to add some instructions on the
 "BuddyPress Forums Setup" admin page for existing bbPress installs.  It
 could be as simple as a link to a BP codex article.
