 while the current design of BP.org is a but strange, there is actually a
 very good, logic and intuitive design of the "mention this user" post-box
 at the website of BP.org

 When you click on a specific user-avatar, you immediately see the post-box
 to send a public message to this user.

 Meaning the post-box which says "Post something to username...."

 This feature should be build into BuddyPress-Core-Code as well.
 As this improves communication of users because the post-box to get in
 touch with a certain user is visible immediately.

 As per current design of BuddyPress, this post-box to contact a certain
 user is hidden within the buttom "mention this user", which is not
 intuitive at all.

 I guess this could be changed quite quickly in the Core-Code and would
 improve BP in terms of usability and enhance communication within the
 stream.
