 Well it turns out I was wrong about my server time, but using the same
 time zone as it doesn't help anyway.

 I've attached an image of screenshots that might help.

 I've set my WordPress timezone to UTC-6 (my timezone).

 I published a post and the database and frontend both display
 {{{{2010-01-22 08:56:15}}}}. Note that {{{wp_posts_1}}} has a
 {{{post_date_gmt}}} field that reads {{{2010-01-22 14:56:15}}}.

 I updated my wire and the database {{{date_record}}} field says
 {{{2010-01-22 08:55:06}}} but the Activity page says "Patrick Daly posted
 an update: 6 hours, 1 minute ago".

 I'm not sure how to reproduce this though. Its been happening since a
 fresh install and I'm updating from trunk every few days.

 All activities are off by 6 hours, except the "active user" status (i.e.
 Patrick Daly: active 0 seconds ago".
