 as additional help, this bug can be viewed at http://mjpratt.com/poopdeck/
 . It is a subdir blog on my dev site using an unaltered bp-default theme
 for both main and sub blogs (note nav slugs - I know you marked this as
 "worked for me" on #1501 but it can be seen clearly here) All slug
 creation worked on earlier 1.2 trunks. I do not have an exact trunk when
 it stopped. apologies)
