 I have setup Buddypress on two seperate installations and experience the
 same thing. These were completely new installs on both systems.

 Setup 1: Windows Vista, BuddyPress 1.2.1, WPMU 2.9.1, Apache 2.2.11, PHP
 5.2.9, MySQL 5.0.51a.
 Setup 2: Linux Centos 5.0, BuddyPress 1.2, WPMU 2.9.1, Apache 2.2.3, PHP
 5.1.6, MySQL 5.0.22.

 This is a the code generated. Avatars work fine on the 'Recently Active
 Member' section, the Activity Stream and everywhere else.
