 Issue resolved. Overwriting files doesn't fix this.Buddypress folder must
 be removed completely then reinstalled.

 Deactivated Buddypress plugin, deleted Buddypress folder from server.
 Uploaded fresh 1.2rc3 Buddypress, reactivated plugin. Issue doesn't
 reoccur.
