Comment:

 Just tested this on a fresh WP 3.0.3 and BP 1.3-trunk install using bp-
 default as the theme and I can't duplicate this at all.

 The register link (/wp-login.php?action=register) from the WP meta widget
 correctly redirects to BP_REGISTER_SLUG and I was able to signup, receive
 the activation email, and was able to successfully activate the account
 via the BP_ACTIVATION_SLUG.
