 From that thread, it looks like there are two issues which users have come
 across.
 1.) GD support not compiled with PHP.
     ...
     Prompt> ./configure <your current build commands> --with-gd
     Prompt> make
     Prompt> make install
     ...
 2.) Various CHMOD perms not set correctly.
     - Either grant the requested perms to the folder (which may sometimes
 be: chmod 755)
     - Or ask your hoster to grant the perms for you.

     Refer to the info messages on the dashboard and readme files/codex for
 recommended perm settings.
