 As I reported there: [http://buddypress.org/forums/topic/hidden-group],
 hidden groups are visible when we use the search tool.

 For example, the group called "The Grouple" I made in the BP demo is an
 hidden group. Then, if people (even if you didn't join this group) search
 a group called "The Grouple" ([http://testbp.org/groups/?s=The+grouple]),
 using the search tool, they can see this hidden group.
