[buddypress-dev] Privacy component

A blanket security setting like that is a bit heavyhanded and not
really helpful for SN purposes. At the very least a profile page
should be able to be visible publicly separate from other content, so
a user is findable if they wish to be.

How would the UI work for tagging and groups? I'm visualising public
profile pages with an "add me" link which does the basic friends level
tagging, which would then go to a page with a set of options for
adding new friend to various different user-defined groups [maybe
something ajaxy/dragndrop/visual?]. The same groups list [including
public, basic WPMU logged in, basic friend, user-defined groups,
private] would be available as a module [checklist?] on the post
writing page, the link/blogroll add page and anywhere else that
content might be drafted [possibly the profile page and/or elements of
it for starters]. Is that kinda what's being considered here or am I
totally off-base?
