Comment (by johnjamesjacoby):

Please show me a WPMU 2.8.1 with BuddyPress 1.0.2 and bbPress 1.0.1 that
has the BuddyBar inside bbPress, without errors or core modifications.

Show me the numerous times you've integrated this in the 3 hours WPMU
 2.8.1 has been out.

I know that no one loves tracking down deep integration issues, and I know
that it's a complicated set of circumstances that come into alignment to
find situations where bugs like this can occur, but I've spent the greater
portion of a year understanding and documenting how to tightly integrate
these platforms and I am fairly confident that this is a change that is
required to support deep integration going forward.

At the very least it's a harmless change in the name of a function that's
only called on internally. It would make sense to me that the function and
their names in WordPress keep up with the functions in BackPress, and vice
versa. This is one place where they're out of sync that I've ran into so
far, because one of my plugins explicitly requires these function names to
 be in sync.
