 I don't think it's as simple as that. When you install, the www. is taken
 off too. You need to remove the www. from the siteurl and home options in
 the blog's options tables as well.

 I think the installer needs to be updated so it sets those properly. If
 someone writes a patch that handles all these cases for VHOST and folder
 installs in a sane manner I'll certainly look at it. Seems that the world
 isn't ready for "no-www" just yet. :(
