Comment:

 Well spotted. Perhaps using admin_url() is better (see 890.diff)?

 Normal WordPress actually redirects to the upgrade page instead of doing a
 wp_remote_get() on it.

 Is there a reason that WPMU does this instead of redirecting like WP does?
