 I think maybe you need to be opening this ticket on
 http://trac.wordpress.org as that's a wordpress issue, not necessarily a
 wpmu issue.

 usernames in mu can't have a space included as you can't included a space
 within any portion of a domain name and would therefor be invalid.

 Leaving open just for a second opinion but I think this ticket should be
 marked as invalid and reopened up on the regular wp trac.
