 Glad to hear you found your own workaround! The only caution I'd throw out
 there is that unbridled FTP access could pose an even greater danger than
 anything conducted through the WordPress UX. If possible, I recommend
 using SSH keys instead of passwords for your users and jailing access to
 that one directory. :)
