Comment:

 `$req` was used in Kubrick's [source:tags/2.9.2/wp-
 content/themes/default/comments.php?marks=71,72,74,75#L63 comments.php]
 template and is still used in [source:tags/4.4.1/src/wp-includes/theme-
 compat/comments.php?marks=95,96,98,99#L85 theme-compat/comments.php].

 We should keep it for back compat.
