 I have a strong suspicion that there's a lot of overlay between the
 outdated versions of WordPress and outdated versions of PHP. We don't know
 how many of these websites are completely abandoned or at least neglected.
 The subsection that cares is important, but 7.5% of users still use IE6
 and as far as I can tell (maybe I'm totally wrong) Wordpress.org doesn't
 even load on it.

 I think to assuage (or perhaps reinforce) any fears we should take the
 opportunity to do more research and understand just how many people
 running PHP 5.2.9 are on the latest version of WordPress. Is this possible
 given the analytics you have access to?
