 I'm not sure
 https://core.trac.wordpress.org/attachment/ticket/25280/25280.5.patch is a
 good idea as it will break backwards-compatibility. I'm guessing there are
 many scripts which strictly check for string values (I know I have), and
 if we changed this, it would break all of them.
