 I inspected the admin navigation menu and it immediately struck me that
 even without this chrome bug, I'd consider it a candidate for applying
 hardware acceleration regardless.

 So out of curiosity I tested enabling / disabling the `transform:
 translateZ(0);` patch using Firefox Mac (since chrome is fubar) and sure
 enough applying GPU acceleration seems to remove some noticeable lag time
 on menu hover reveal / hide.

 A patch to WP admin that applies CSS transform to the menu could be a
 positive improvement with benefit beyond this particular chrome issue.
 Just wanted to put that thought out there.
