 flushing no-op. By converting everything to runtime, it's a bit more WP-
 like. I'm not against this assuming it can be made faster. But it may be a
 solid alternative to cleaning up this mess.

 I'd be very interested in seeing that pitch (and some benchmarks). I
 looked around, but couldn't find it.
