 I'm also concerned about `children_only` but the rest of the codex and the
 other relevant options all use the child-parent analogies, so I'm not sure
 that introducing 'leaf node' would fit in.

 Some suggestions:
 `terminal_children` sounds grim though
 `leaf_children` mixed metaphor, but still
 `childless`
 `childless_terms`
 `childless_only`
