 I'm not yet able to reproduce the issue with the code above using current
 trunk, Twenty Fourteen, and no plugins except for Pig Latin to test the
 strings.

 When I go to `wp-admin/edit-
 tags.php?taxonomy=ts_place&post_type=ts_animal`, the Animal column is
 translated.

 @benoitchantre - are you using a modified version of the code above, or do
 you have any plugins installed? Also, does this happen in current trunk or
 is this a 3.8.1 installation?
