 Yes, I use the wp-sitemap-page plugin. But I can not see any call of
 `the_content()` in `wsp_wp_sitemap_page_func()` or any of the functions
 called by that.

 In fact your testcase will produce a stray `</p>` here as well, even
 without `the_content()` - see: http://arnowelzel.de/wpdemo/sitemap-test

 To be sure that this is not caused by some code in the theme, I also
 changed the theme to the "official" Twenty-Fourteen theme by WordPress.
