 From own experience there aren't many non-tech-savvy users out there that
 want to replace MySQL. Like they have no idea which version of MySQL they
 are running on. And that is totally fine.

 I have no issues with using MariaDB and it was always compatible with
 MySQL. I guess the reason why it's not on the requirement page is that we
 don't test on it. But to me that is not a reason for not using it.
