 Yes, SVGs would be perfect for the icons assuming the browsers on retina
 display devices would "know" to render them in higher quality. The problem
 is... IE8 and under (surprise!). There is an Adobe plugin for IE < 9, not
 sure how reasonable it would be to force all users with these browsers to
 install it.
