 [attachment:post-to-edit.diff] is a preliminary patch that:

 * introduces the WP_Post_To_Edit class
 * deprecates wp_get_single_post() and get_post_to_edit() (but doesn't stop
 using them yet)

 [attachment:post-to-edit.tests.diff] contains some preliminary unit tests.
