Comment:

 It would be one less step in setup, and also help with user perception.
 Many people think the blogs actually live in blogs.dir. Also I have seen
 issues with Apache needing tweaks to handle just the image rewrite. You
 can imagine how that goes over with shared hosts.

 I'd love to see more chime in.
