 Yup I agree that it's an irrelevant problem :)

 I decided to look into a little further and noticed that the
 header_image() function does check for ssl and should be returning the url
 with the proper protocol. not sure why it isn't in your case, perhaps
 something to do with your particular installation, perhaps not.
