Comment:

 In terms of how translations work, this doesn't: `__(
 $post_type_labels->singular_name . ' updated. )`.

 In terms of how languages work, this doesn't: `__( "%s updated." )`.

 Regarding the first part: So, the way translations work is that strings
 are parsed by a tool that does not process PHP. Thus, any variable strings
 require us to substitute in using %s or %d, basically sprintf() format

 Regarding the second part: We still can't do %s in most cases due to the
 way verbs get conjugated, adjectives have different forms based on the
 noun, etc. English is one of the exceptions here, where for the most part
 you can substitute a noun into a sentence and the rest of the sentence
 won't need a change. But in most languages, we will have serious issues.
 For more detail on the issues, and about our current stem: #12968.

 We have a filter here, post_updated_messages, which was added in 3.0
 specifically to allow for these messages to be changed on the post type
 level.
