 I've installed wordpress 2.8 and the problem still exists. Looking at the
 database table, the columns related to ping show:

 - ping_status = Open
 - to_ping = empty (not the literal string value; there is nothing there)
 - pinged = empty (not the literal string value; there is nothing there)

 These values are the same for all posts including revisions, regardless of
 whether they contain pingbacks or trackbacks.
