 I recently installed Gallery2, And i must say i was blown away by how
 smooth and integrated the plugin install was, IMO, WordPress really needs
 something similar.

 As part of Googles Summer of Code 2007, I wrote a plugin which does
 exactly this, unfortunately since then, i've had little time to work on
 it, So i'm not sure if it works with 2.4/2.5 still.

 The entire plugin can be checked out from this svn: http://wordpress-
 soc-2007.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/dd32.crazyman/trunk/ (Please checkout
 into a 'wp-update' plugin folder) - also note that it'll take over the
 plugins page, so the (now) inbuilt update checker will be unavailable
 while its enabled.
