Hi testers --

We're still in feature development, so no WordPress 3.1 beta yet, but
earlier
today the code behind the exporter and importer just got a huge overhaul,
and we
need your help.

This massive undertaking by Jon Cave (duck_) fixed more than two dozen
tickets at
once. As you can see from the two commits [1] [2], there are huge
improvements
that include leveraging a formal XML parser, properly exporting and
importing
navigation menus, exporting and importing entire author data, and fixing
numerous bugs especially those related to category and taxonomy handling.

We need lots of testing on both the export and import. The importer also
needs
testing for both old (3.0.x) and new (3.1-alpha) export files, as it should
work
with both.

As of WordPress 3.0, the importers now plugins. This makes it very easy to
test.
You can download the development version of the WordPress Importer here:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-importer/download/.

You can update to WordPress 3.1-alpha by using the WordPress Beta Tester
plugin:
http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-beta-tester/. Don't do this on
a
live site! Also keep in mind you can still help by testing the importer on
WordPress 3.0.1.

Feedback and bugs can be posted here. The main ticket on Trac is
http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15197.

Thanks for your help,
