Correct, it thinks the update package is empty because it is checking it as
an object property, not an array key. It appears that some PHP4 versions
choke on this, but PHP 5 has no problem with handling an array as an object
in this case.

As of this afternoon, it has been fixed in the 2.9 branch, so if/when there
is a 2.9.3 release, it will be included in there.
