[wp-testers] Wordpress scaling problems

I've been following this thread with great interest.

I had seen in a couple of places on the forum, the assertion that lots
of pages didn't scale, whereas lots of posts do. But could not find a
anything concrete to back it up.

Things are starting to make sense now.

I encountered a problem last year importing a database dump from a wp
installation with 1200 pages. No attachments, and obviously no
categories in the URLs, but the hierarchy is 7 or 8 levels deep!

The problem was the import failed because that one row in wp_options
with the rewrite rules was more than 2Meg.
Deleting the one row from the dump file got round it and WP recreated the data.

Unfortunately, this system is expected to have more than 20,000 pages
in it! and it fact it has now moved over to wpmu and may have
thousands of pages in each blog (though ony one with 20K).

Hmmm, there may be trouble ahead... as the song goes.
