Corrupt database maybe?  Is this affecting all your 2.8s?

I've gone through the svn database upgrades up to current trunk and none 
of them reported back errors, so I reckon it's safe to assume that 
that's when it happened.  The why might remain a mystery.

Certainly it is not quite a trivial matter to switch a page to a post. 
Even if you change the post type it doesn't quite do it.  What's in your 
database for the pages that are now posts?
