I was the one who started working on the new gallery system. After a 
lengthy discussion with the main devs and other devs in the IRC channel, 
it be better for us to push independent media usage in 2.8 when we can 
combine...

a) Media items in other posts other than the posts that they were 
uploaded too
b) Refine the multiple gallery system.
c) Live preview of the [gallery] tag from within TinyMCE.

If we would have included it now, the code might have changed when the 
major overall of the media system was done. We don't really want that to 
happen. The upgrade script would be crazy! The ticket I was working off
