Otto, the preview button uses js to add "target" to the form when
clicked (that's what opens the new page/tab), submits the form then
removes the target. This is the same for both published posts and
drafts. It's strange that it only fails for published posts.
The same is used for pages, does it fail there too?
The js function is in wp-admin/js/post.js around line 300. Perhaps try
disabling part of it to see what causes the error.
When js is disabled the "old" preview buttons are there, "Preview" for
drafts and "View Post" for published.
