Sorry it took me so long to get back here....

I am familiar with how Super Cache works, I only mentioned it because it
does keep the server load down as other people hit the site.

Dreamhost is no speed demon as it is.  It seems to plug along and that is
about it.  But since I updated to WP 2.6 I have noticed the extra lag in
loading pages in the admin.

Hosting Matters has the same lag I've noticed, though not quite as slow.
