Okay, updated my local WP install with the latest 2.6 branch as Matt 
suggested as well as one of my online sites and ran them through the 
paces for a couple hours. So far, so good...it looks like the problem is 
gone with this build (2.6-r8511 aka 2.6.1-alpha), the Admin is moving 
right along now. Error logs for root, themes and plugins are empty (same 
as before actually).

Since this a maintenance release and more bugs are fixed than not 
according to Trac 2.6.1 Roadmap, I don't mind mind running my online 
site with it. Besides, I'll be one of the first to update both sites to 
a beta version any day. I'll wait till the morning and check again but 
it looks good so far. A pronounced difference for the better.
